We are survivors.

We are a group of women united to create a supportive community, share knowledge, and empower African Americans affected by endometrial cancer. We are here to motivate, inspire, and listen.

About Us

On this website, we hope you find the community and knowledge you are looking for.

If you are ready to stand with us, we hope you join us in our national efforts to set a new standard of research on this condition. Research that respects us, that is focused on what matters to us, and that is designed to improve our health and wellbeing.

Our Story

The Endometrial Cancer Action Network for African Americans was founded in December 2017

by research oncologist Dr. Kemi Doll, endometrial cancer survivor Margie Willis, and breast cancer survivor Bridgette Hempstead in partnership with the UW Seattle. The goal was to create a dedicated space for community, research, and advocacy for Black people affected by endometrial cancer.

Today we are survivors, caregivers, researchers, and stakeholders who support hundreds of women and their families in navigating the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial cancer through passionate advocacy to improve survival rates and address the racial disparities in this disease. By 2023, ECANA had helped raise over $45,000 to support educating the Black community about endometrial cancer and promote health equity for those diagnosed.

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in the US – yet it receives less public attention and fewer research dollars than many other types of cancer.

Endometrial cancer also has one of the widest racial health disparities of any kind of cancer.

African American women with endometrial cancer in the U.S. are more likely to die from the cancer — by a large margin — than any other group.
